A Taste of My Own Medicine: How Following My Own Strategies Led to My Biggest Month Yet

It’s easy to dish out advice as a consultant or strategist. I spend my days helping clients build stronger businesses, often urging them to streamline their services, target the right audience, and set up streamlined processes. Yet, until recently, I hadn’t fully applied these principles to my own business.

After hitting a plateau, I decided to take a dose of my own medicine. The result? My highest revenue month yet.

1. Creating Clean Service Packages

The first thing I tackled was clarity in my offerings. For a long time, I offered a wide range of services, but without clearly defined packages, deliverables, or timelines. It left too much room for negotiation, and clients were often unsure of exactly what they’d receive. So, I structured my services into easy-to-understand packages with set prices and clear timelines. This made my value immediately apparent to potential clients and sped up the onboarding process. They knew exactly what they would receive and when, reducing friction in their decision to work with me.

2. Building a Repeatable Process

As a consultant, it’s tempting to treat every client as a unique case and reinvent the wheel with each new project. But I realized I could provide the same level of customization while relying on a repeatable framework. I created step-by-step processes that allowed me to deliver consistent quality without getting bogged down in the minutiae of every new project. This not only saved time but also allowed me to focus more on the strategic, nuanced aspects of each client’s business.

3. Narrowing Down My Target Audience

Perhaps the most significant change was focusing my efforts on a more specific audience. I had been casting too wide of a net, trying to appeal to anyone and everyone. By narrowing down my ideal client to a particular industry and problem set, I was able to hone my messaging and marketing. This attracted clients who were the perfect fit for my services, making the entire experience smoother for both sides. They trusted that I have the expertise to solve their problems, and I am able to provide a reliable service.

Streamlined, But Still Flexible

The most important part? These changes didn’t mean I had to lose flexibility. I still customize strategies to suit each client’s needs, but now with a solid structure in place, I can do so more efficiently and effectively. The results speak for themselves.
